Artist’s Statement

I love the expressive and versatile nature of paint. Brush strokes seem like moments of laughter to me. In my mind, these Watauga hills have their own emotions and memories. Their scenery sparks my imagination. As seasons change, so the codes of color and light. I feel as if I am translating a secret language as they inspire my canvas visions.

Jennifer Murphy

Jennifer Murphy, daughter of Appalachian painter Norma Murphy, was born with paintbrush in hand. Painting along side her mother felt like sharing a secret language. Jennifer’s love of roaming Watauga County in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina has always offered spirited inspirations.
