Often flood victims return and rebuild

close to the river that will threaten them again.

And after each inundation, a mark on a post

will say how high the water rose, a point of pride.

We’re born in water and by water.

Riding the waters saved the animals,

though God challenged the shipwright,

testing his mettle with days of pelting rain.

They survived by trusting the waves.
